Corpus of Research Articles 2007
The Corpus of Research
Articles (CRA) 2007 is a research resource that is publicly available via
the website of the Research Centre for Professional Communication in
English (RCPCE)
http://www.engl.polyu.edu.hk/RCPCE/ to benefit academics and
students locally and internationally. It is available to
users free of charge and is not used for any commercial
purposes.
The CRA 2007 enables users to investigate the patterns of language
use in research articles from 39 disciplines. Short segments of texts
(12 words either side of the word(s) being studied) can be generated
for analytical purposes. For a full list of all the discipline-specific
journals used in the compilation of the CRA click

A total of 20 articles have been selected for each discipline. In each
discipline, 20 active and popular journals with high impact ratios were
identified. Impact ratios were derived from Journal Citation
Reports published by the Institute for Scientific
Information. The first article from the first issue of the
year 2007 of each identified journal was selected for inclusion in the
corpus. The corpus currently contains 780 articles and no two articles
were written by the same author(s).
The corpus also allows for the following types of advanced search:
1. Advanced Search by Discipline
This allows for the searching of 20 research articles from each
discipline.
2. Advanced Search by Field
In this search mode, articles in the 39 disciplines are merged into two
fields:
Engineering and Applied Sciences and Humanities and Social Sciences.
The disciplines in each field are:
a. Engineering and Applied
Sciences
1 Applied Biology
& Chemical Technology
2 Applied Mathematics
3 Applied Physics
4 Building Services Engineering
5 Civil & Structural Engineering
6 Computing
7 Electrical Engineering
8 Electronic & Information Engineering
9 Health Technology & Informatics
10 Industrial & Systems Engineering
11 Land Surveying & Geoinformatics
12 Mechanical Engineering
13 Nursing
14 Optometry
15 Rehabilitation Sciences

5 Results
6 Discussion
7 Merged Results & Discussion
8 Merged Method & Results
9 Merged Method, Results & Discussion
10 Conclusion
